Health Minister reviews efforts to combat stunting; prevalence among children drops to 4%.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, reviewed the state’s efforts in combating stunting and improving children’s health, during the activities of the National Day to Combat Stunting 2026, which was held under the slogan “Early detection is only the beginning.”
Decreased rates of stunting among children

The Minister of Health and Population explained that stunting rates among children have decreased over the past years, falling from 6.9% to 4% over seven years.
This decrease reflects the importance of continuing early detection, health and nutrition follow-up programs for children, especially in age groups that are experiencing continuous growth and need continuous monitoring to detect any health problems early.
National Day for Combating Stunting
The celebration of the National Day to Combat Stunting comes within the framework of increasing interest in children’s health and raising awareness of problems related to growth and nutrition.
The aim of the day is to highlight the importance of detecting and dealing with cases of stunting early, as well as to promote awareness of the importance of health follow-up and proper nutrition during the stages of a child’s growth.
“Early detection is just the beginning.”
This year’s National Day events came under the slogan “Early detection is just the beginning,” indicating that discovering a health problem is a first step that requires continuous follow-up and care.
Efforts to deal with health problems do not stop at the examination stage, as follow-up, assessment of the condition and dealing with it according to the child’s health and nutritional needs are an important part of the care system.
An initiative to detect anemia, obesity, and stunting
The efforts to combat stunting come within the framework of the presidential initiative for the early detection of anemia, obesity and stunting among primary school students.
The initiative aims to identify cases that need health follow-up at an early age, which helps to deal with health and nutritional problems that may affect children’s growth.
Regular check-ups also contribute to raising awareness of the importance of monitoring a child’s health and not waiting until more obvious symptoms or problems appear.
Proper nutrition and its role in children’s growth
Nutrition is one of the important factors related to a child’s health and development, and therefore raising awareness of healthy eating habits is an essential part of efforts to prevent malnutrition problems.
Children’s health requires integrated attention that combines medical follow-up, proper nutrition, and attention to growth, especially during the early years and early school stages.
Schools are a key partner in early detection
Schools are of great importance in early detection programs, given the possibility of accessing large numbers of students and conducting health checks in an organized manner.
These programs help to detect some health and nutritional problems among students, allowing cases that need follow-up to be referred to the appropriate medical authorities.
The importance of monitoring child development
The efforts to combat stunting emphasize the importance of continuous monitoring of children’s growth and not being satisfied with a single examination, especially since detecting any problem at an early stage can help in dealing with it quickly.
Family awareness of healthy nutrition and monitoring of child growth is also an important element, in addition to the health services provided by the competent authorities.
Collaboration to support children’s health
The National Day for Combating Stunting witnessed the participation of a number of stakeholders, international organizations and development partners, in support of efforts related to child health and nutrition.
This collaboration reflects the importance of integrating efforts between health authorities and various institutions in order to promote prevention and early detection programs and improve awareness of health problems facing children.
The Ministry of Health continues its efforts
The Ministry of Health and Population continues to implement programs and initiatives aimed at the early detection of diseases and health problems in children, with a focus on prevention, awareness and follow-up.
These efforts come within the framework of the concern for children’s health as one of the main pillars for improving quality of life, and supporting the healthy growth of children during the different stages of life.
Combating stunting is a shared responsibility
Combating stunting is not limited to health institutions alone, but requires the participation of the family, school and community in spreading awareness of the importance of proper nutrition and health monitoring.
While early detection programs continue, awareness and regular follow-up remain important factors in maintaining children’s health and dealing with any health problem in a timely manner.
National Day for Combating Stunting Message
The National Day for Combating Stunting highlights the importance of moving from simply identifying the problem to continuing follow-up and care, in support of efforts to improve children’s health.
The reported decrease in the stunting rate from 6.9% to 4% over seven years is one of the indicators that the Ministry of Health reviews as part of its efforts related to children’s health and nutrition.
